Today is the five year anniversary of the horrific shootings at Virginia Tech. As an alum, but especially a parent, I can’t begin to comprehend the pain and emotions that family and friends of the 32 have experienced and continue to feel every day since April 16, 2007.

Five months after the shootings, the Dave Matthews Band put on a free show at Lane Stadium for students, faculty, and staff. John Mayer, Nas, and Phil Vassar also played. It is the only concert ever held at the Hokies’ football stadium. Whether you are a fan of John Mayer or not, take the time to listen to this version of this song with the late Leroi Moore on sax. It is an incredibly powerful performance.
